In Minnesota, a mint DeLorean runs at about 22K. The frames rotted out pretty well because they dipped and the paint cracked in places where it was an 1/8" of an inch thick. Moisture traveled into those cracks and began corroding everything, which you know will be bad here in the midwest. Some DMC cars here have new frames from Texas under them.

There is no such thing as a Mint Delorean with a rotted frame, Mint would be a perfect frame.

The frames were never painted, they were epoxy coated. After 25+ years the epoxy looses its elasticity, dries out and cracks.

There are no NOS complete frames available, only reconditioned powdercoated original frames or a new Stainless Steel frame can be bought. The Stainless Steel frames are made by http://www.pearce-design.com and are sold by www.delorean.com or any other DMC affiliate or can be bought direct from http://www.pearce-design.com .

$22,000 is a very good price for a near perfect Delorean, but not one with a rotted frame. That car is more worth the $10,000 area if the frame is toast.

I live in the Midwest, Wisconsin to be exact and my Delorean's frame is in awesome shape, it all depends how you treat the car.

I know an owner who lives in Illinois and just replaced his frame a few years back, he is the original owner. He drove it daily for years through snow and rain till he retired.

Any other Myths you need busted? :D

RE: Clarification

I should clarify something. The car had a new frame installed. I never inferred that a car with a rotted frame was "mint". I was simply saying that Deloreans in Minnesota had frame rot problems occur rather easily. The frame was from Texas and most likely taken from another car. I should put up the Craigslist ad link.
